AC Milan want Godin

According to Corriere dello Sport, AC Milan are set to go after Diego Godin when his contract expires next summer. The Uruguay international has been viewed as one of the best defenders in world football for years now, and he only strengthened that reputation this past summer at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Godin joined Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in 2010 and has been there ever since, playing a huge role in their rise up through the ranks both domestically and in Europe. Back in the summer Manchester United were believed to be interested in a last minute deal to bring him to Old Trafford, but it never materialised.

Atletico have been known to be very stubborn when it comes to keeping hold of their stars so it won’t be an easy departure if he was to leave, but at the a…

United Arab Emirates v Australia: Arnold to break with tradition for quarter-final

000011A9
Arnold plans to break with his tradition of naming his starting line-up the night before a match when Australia face United Arab Emirates in the Asian Cup quarter-final.

The Socceroos take on the hosts on Friday in Al Ain, hoping to become the first reigning champions to reach the last four of the tournament since Japan in 2007.

They have been made to work in their run to the last eight, recovering from an opening defeat to Jordan to progress to the round of 16, where they defeated Uzbekistan on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Head coach Arnold believes that spot-kick success has instilled some confidence in his side and he hopes his players can tap into their renewed belief.

He intends to inform the squad of the team to face UAE on the morning of the …

Klopp fears Bayern Munich are ´more dangerous than before´

Jurgen Klopp believes Bayern Munich could be more dangerous than before against Liverpool due to their inconsistent form in 2018-19.

The Reds host Niko Kovac s side on Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

Liverpool have been tipped by many as the favourites to progress to the quarter-finals, with Bayern s dominance of German football appearing to be weakening during something of a transitional season.

They sit two points behind Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, having played a game more, and twice fought back from a goal down to beat Augsburg 3-2 on Friday.

Klopp, though, thinks Bayern s improved results since a run of no wins in four games in September shows they will be a real threat at Anfield.

After six years as…

Prediction: PAOK vs Shamrock Rovers

Best Odds: 4/6

Bookmaker:

Looking to pick up a first-leg advantage on Thursday evening, PAOK will welcome Shamrock Rovers to the Toumba Stadium.

Manchester United

Starting with the hosts, making real history last season as they got their hands on a fourth Super League crown, PAOK will simply be looking to carry on from where they left off back in May. Although the Greek giants might have watched their Champions League qualifying adventure come to an abrupt end last week as they fell to an action-packed 6-5 aggregate defeat at the hands of Malmo, Razvan Lucescu’s men claimed an immediate response over the weekend. Getting the 2024/25 campaign underway with a 3-2 victory against Panserraikos, the former Al Hilal boss will be confident of claiming a first-leg ad…

Prediction: Wales vs Bulgaria

Prediction: Draw

Best Odds:

Bookmaker:

European football is slowly but surely starting to return with a brand new season after an incredibly short absence, but for the next few days, the international game is going to become the core focal point and that means the return of the UEFA Nations League. Wales and Bulgaria will be clashing heads later on this week in what many consider to be a hyped up friendly, but with UEFA Euro 2021 coming up next season, one will be making preparations for the tournament whereas the other still needs to try and confirm their qualification.

Wales

As runners-up in Group E, Wales are the latest country to book their ticket to next year s European Championship in what will be their second appearance in the tournament. Th…

Mourinho: I didn´t get backing like Guardiola and Klopp at United

Jose Mourinho does not believe Manchester United gave him the conditions for success that Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have enjoyed at Manchester City and Liverpool.

Mourinho s two-and-a-half-year tenure at Old Trafford ended when United were beaten 3-1 at Liverpool last December, amid a dispiriting run of Premier League results.

Having arrived in Manchester at the same time as Guardiola ahead of the 2016-17 season, a renewal of the duo s rivalry from their time at Real Madrid and Barcelona was anticipated.

It failed to materialise, despite United lifting the EFL Cup and Europa League during Mourinho s initial campaign, with Guardiola s City racking up 100 points to become champions in 2017-18 – 19 clear of the Red Devils in second place.

Croatia v England: Young focusing on Three Lions threat, not Modric fears

Ashley Young wants England to focus on their own qualities ahead of the World Cup semi-final against Croatia, rather than worry about the threat of Luka Modric.

Gareth Southgate s side head to Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday for their first semi-final at football s biggest tournament since 1990, and only the second since lifting the trophy in 1966, having beaten Sweden 2-0 in the quarter-finals.

This will be England s first meeting with Croatia at a major tournament since the Euro 2004 group stage, when the Three Lions triumphed 4-2. Each side has won two of the four meetings since then, which includes England s infamous 3-2 defeat at in November 2007, which saw them miss out on a Euro 2008 spot and led to the departure of boss Steve McClaren.

Modric started that m…

Inter boss Conte advises critics to ´lay off the wine´ after Atalanta draw

Antonio Conte advised his critics to lay off the wine after Inter s winless run stretched to a fourth game with a 1-1 draw against Atalanta.

Aleksey Miranchuk fired in from the edge of the box 11 minutes from time in Sunday s clash in Bergamo to cancel out Lautaro Martinez s header.

Inter have won only one of their past eight matches in all competitions and have conceded 16 times in 10 games overall this term.

However, when asked for his thoughts on those who feel he is less animated on the sidelines this season, Conte replied: I d advise them to lay off the wine.

Inter wasted a glorious chance to double their lead when Marco Sportiello denied Arturo Vidal from a one-on-one and then kept out Nicolo Barella s follow-up attempt.

The visitors were w…

Guardiola keen for Fernandinho to pen contract extension

Pep Guardiola is confident Fernandinho will sign a new deal at Manchester City – hailing him as one of the greatest players in the club s history.

The Brazil international, who joined the Premier League champions from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013, is out of contract at the end of this season.

There has been speculation this could be Fernandinho s final campaign at the Etihad Stadium – something fuelled in part by Riyad Mahrez inadvertently suggesting the 34-year-old would follow David Silva in seeking pastures new when the winger took part in a Sky Sports Christmas quiz last month.

Silva s exit will continue a procession of club greats, after Vincent Kompany bade an emotional farewell last May, 12 and 24 months respectively after Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta di…
